Adrien: Weeping.

I know, this whole no-shopping-in-September thing was my big stupid idea and it's a good one because, yes, it forces me to shop in my own closet and be more creative with what I already have. There's only one problem: I don't actually have a ton of clothes. Unlike Marianne, I don't have a lot of clothes older than 3 or 4 years, mainly  because I lost about 40 pounds nine years ago, and with it about four dress sizes. I consigned, eBayed and gave away all my "fat" clothes because I couldn't imagine ever being there again. I did gain back a few pounds, but I've been a pretty consistent size for the past five or six years.

Also, I am a big believer in consigning or selling anything in my closet that's not working for me. I almost never regret this and it's nice to have the extra money to roll back into my wardrobe for fresh new things. So, the gist of all this is that you're going to be seeing a lot of repeat outfits in the coming weeks, starting with today's blue dress which you've also seen here, here, and here. Sorry, dudes. I'm boring.

  1. First of all, congratulations on losing the weight! Secondly, I don't think you need to apologise for wearing an item a lot, that's what we all do. Some out of necessity, and some because they have tried and trusted favourites. Personally, I've just been selling most of my clothes on ebay (not due to weight loss, but weight gain unfortunately) and so my wardrobe is getting more and more limited. That is when we have to challenge ourselves to wear something differently, something which I struggle with. I look forward to seeing how you wear your 'repeats'!

  2. I love this dress! It looks great on you!

It doesn't take a ton of clothes to create different outfits. I don't have a whole lot and I repeate EVERYTHING in some way, shape or form. The trick is to be creative in your pairings, try new color combos and new layering options.

It can most definitely be frustrating at times, but it can be fun and SO rewarding when you find new options that you LOVE from things you've worn a hundred times!

  3. Hey, I say don't apologize for that dress either. That's a great dress. And I need that necklace today. In fact, I'm going at lunch on a search for a similar one! I'm wearing one of my "outfits" today so I brought my camera to try to get my co-worker to take a photo for me!

  4. Thanks, y'all. I know you guys know this isn't one of those high-end fashion blogs with no repeats, but it's still nice to get the positive feedback.

The necklace is one I made! I'll probably go straight to handmade hell for this, but you can find something similar (though not as fabulous) at Forever21 or Target. I'm secretly convinced they're copying our designs.

Can't wait to see your outfit MQ!

  5. Taking a break from shopping for a month is such an awesome idea. I thought about it all day yesterday and I think I may do it myself!

Everything for Fall is at full price right now anyways so, saving up for the sales instead will make it all the better in October!

Also, seeing how you creatively put together what you already have is way more inspirational/realistic than constantly showing new stuff!
