Okay. So when I wore my One Dollar Wonder a couple of weeks back, during a freak cold snap, I promised to show you how I planned to style it for warm weather. And lo, it is warm. It is record-breaking sweltering. And I had big plans to wear the dress belted. So I grabbed a basic stretchy, cheap, Forever 21 belt:
Aaaaand....no. It just looked wrong. So, maybe the more delicate double skinny belt from anthropologie would be better?
Wrong. Not really awful, but not great. The thin leather straps get lost in the bold print, and it makes me look hippy. As a last ditch effort I tied on a cotton obi-style belt that I was 99% sure wouldn't work:
But from the side it's fairly maternity-esque.
But I will say, it was super comfortable. How would you style this dress?
dress: vintage BCBG (honestly totally different dress that I nonetheless love here)
shoes: Miz Mooz Hype (in brown or black here)
necklace: Diana Warner (similar here)
belts: Forever 21, anthropologie, Max Studio
What about tying a thin black cardigan around your waist? or a belt that hangs lower rather than so high on your ribs?
ReplyDeleteand omg your daughter is cute!
ReplyDeleteI think the first belt looks great. But if you really decide you don't want that dress, I know someone who would take it off your hands. ;)
ReplyDeleteWhen I got to the pic with the obi, I was sure your comment underneath would be that this belt finally works! Well . . . I thought it did. Bold print, bold belt, bold waist. Nice shape.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, you look cute in all the pics. Your hair especially is fabulous.
Lu!
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree with greatbleuheron, I think the obi works great!
You guys are sweet. The proportions in person weren't right, I looked even more short waisted than usual.
ReplyDeleteI like to Obi, but what about a black leather V belt? One that sits a little lower, with the v down to elongate your torso.
ReplyDeleteokay, I had to click on the bigger pics to see up close. Yeah, the obi is still my fave but, maybe a white one or an orange one to pick up the color?
ReplyDeleteI like the obi option and the beltless options. Frankly I like all the options but I know the feeling of frustration when you've tried a million things and nothing seems just perfect. You look great though. That dress is so cool! Hai little mini!
ReplyDeleteI like how the obi belt looks with the dress.
ReplyDeleteAnother vote for the obi belt!
ReplyDeleteI also think the obi works well. I find with my hips that lower just hits at the wrong spot in a bad way. Sometimes the trick is to not belt so tightly, which makes lines flow better!
ReplyDeleteI like the obi. You could also try a different colored belt - some contrast might make it work (unwork but work somehow in a funky way?). Love the dress...
ReplyDeleteI liked the thin double belt- it gives the detail you need, but it's delicate enough not to cut you off!
ReplyDeleteYup. I also thought the obi was a win. Although I would really really like to see you with a cardigan tied 'round your waist ... you know, when we meet to lunch and hit some balls at the club.
ReplyDeleteI really really like how it looks with the obi belt!
