Adrien: Giving Up

Sometimes I try to get dressed in the morning and I just...give up. It's just not going to work out the way I want it to so I just give up and go with whatever crappy ensemble I've got on. This outfit is a perfect example of that happening. I had the bottom half figured out but OH MY GOD what the hell is the deal with denim skirts? HOW do people wear these things? Why are they not the same kind of easy that jeans are? RAGE. RAGE.

Because, listen. Tucking in is weird because then you need some kind of belt or something, but NOT tucking in just makes you look all lumpy and shapeless. Today? I went with lumpy and shapeless. Not only that, I totally gave up and wore it with a black t-shirt. Sad, right? I might as well buy some Crocs and be done with it.

This is what I'm talking about:

Ugh.

skirt: Gap (similar)
t-shirt: Gap (similar)
shoes: Miz Mooz Hype
necklace: Banana Republic (similar)
bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs Hillier Hobo

  1. Well, I like the skirt. Of course, I do the same. It's mid-July, I've given up until Fall.

    Sigh, I hate summer.

  2. You're so right about how jean skirts are frustrating -- I only ever want to wear mine with a white t-shirt and red shoes. Sigh.

  3. You are so right about jean skirts! I always expect them to work like jeans. Instead I end up like a butt-less wonder. I just looked at your ensemble again. You look cute! The necklace with the buttons on the skirt tie it together. The crocs line made me laugh, only to look and see you mocking me with your beautiful green Miz Mooz. I am the colour of those sandals every time I see you in them!

  4. You're being too hard on yourself but I know what you mean nonetheless. I really WANT to like denim skirts and I do like yours very much. But every time I try one I feel like the butt pockets are always all wrong. Most would blame the size of my behind for this wrongness but I prefer to blame the skirts.

  5. For firsts, I think you look totally cute. For seconds, I love denim skirts! I have found that you either need to wear a shirt that is fitted, but made of a thicker, sturdier material, or you need to wear something lightweight that floats away from the body a bit. Or a shape wear cami, but it's hot as balls out.

  6. Seriously, this is not at all as bad as you think it is. It's casual and it looks cute. Simple =/= frumpy!

Either way, I can definitely relate to the sentiment. I hate those days when nothing looks or feels right---I also tend to blame one of the items in my closet and then punish it appropriately.

PS: Have you received enough compliments on those shoes yet? Because they're great.

  7. How do you deal with the buttons on the skirt--do you get gaps when you sit? I shy away from this type of skirt because they seem to bunch up on me when I sit. Maybe its a hips thing?

  8. I have to say, now that I have given it a moments thought, I can't remember the last time I wore a jean skirt...I guess I am saving myself frustration, lol.
Love yours tho..the buttons down the front are adorable.

  9. I'm so with you on denim skirts. I've finally accepted that they just don't work for me.

  11. Thanks for the feedback, all! Spacegeek, the buttons do gape a bit which is kind of annoying.

  12. it is something particular to denim skirts, that bunching. I think you just have to try and go with it- I do love this skirt.
