Marianne: A Very Thorough Review of Seven's Slim Illusion Skinny Jeans.

Oh my lord. I'm going to cut right to the chase: I bought these jeans (using Adrien's methods, except I don't use rebate sites please don't tell her she will yell). And then I got this big brilliant idea to compare them side-by-side with my old Gap skinny jeans. To show how awesome they are! Except.

Left: 7 For All Mankind "The Slim Illusion" Skinny Jeans. Right: Gap "Always Skinny" Jeans.
Is it just me, or do I look thinner in the less awesome, less comfortable Gap jeans? I think I do. I believe the Seven jeans are SO stretchy that they maybe aren't as skinny-fying as I had hoped.

But let me say this: While the "Slim Illusion" jeans may not be quite as flattering, they are incredibly comfortable. So soft. So stretchy. So lacking in muffin-top. The Gap jeans are...binding.

And from the back (LORD, I am posting these pictures, y'all. I must love you.), I think the Sevens win. The pockets are bigger and placed better, and don't have rear-highlighting contrast stitching. So, overall, I pretty much love these jeans, even though they don't make me look a size smaller. I do think I could have probably sized down, but these are so comfortable that I don't care. I love them, you should consider getting some, the end.

scarf: Fred Flare Zebra Crossing Scarf
top: Willi Smith (similar here and ugh so cute here)
jeans: on left, Seven for All Mankind The Slim Illusion Skinny Jeans, on right, Gap Always Skinny Jeans
shoes: French Sole Sloop (hands down the most comfortable flats ever, y'all)

**Because we are total enablers, it should be mentioned that Shopbop has a F&F code good for 20% off right now: WEAREFAMILY. Go get some fancy jeans! **

  1. You look great!

If it makes you feel any better about the Sevens, you are slightly farther away from the camera in the Gap photos, so that may explain the slight difference. And comfort is important! And the Sevens do win in the back view. But they still seem scary expensive to me.

    1. Thanks, Carly! I agree, premium denim is a hard cost to swallow, BUT I will say this: they hold up much better and the fit cannot be beat. I'd rather spend money on one really good pair of skinny jeans than have several pairs that aren't as substantial or nicely cut.

    2. I totally agree with you. I've gotten up to the $100 range for really good pants (that I end up wearing 3 days a week). That seems to be my emotional limit at the moment.

  2. I agree, the camera distance is skewing the results, but I still think the 7s are more flattering overall. And not SO scary expensive if you use my method which includes REBATE SITES OMG MARIANNE.

  3. This is a great review. I just started being a believer in designer denim, so I'll have to keep them in mind although that particular style doesn't run big enough for me. I'm pretty sure Seven for all Mankind has plus sizes somewhere, though.

Most comfortable flats ever, hmmm? Good to know. It's surprisingly hard to find really comfortable flats.

I don't use rebate sites either, but they sound intriguing. I'm far too forgetful to use coupons, though, so it would have to be completely dummy proof.

    1. Oh girl, these flats are basically like slippers. The suede styles (like the leopard print) run a bit big, just fyi. When I replace these (because I have worn them to death), I'll go down a half size.

    2. OK, so I just got the French Soles and I'm worried because they're a teeny bit snug across the instep (that's the top of the foot, right?). Please tell me they will stretch!

    3. Mine totally stretched and now they are too big (though I still wear them at least twice a week).

  4. I just got back from a 2-week trip and ran over here to see if The Jeans had arrived! I had planned to rotate them with 2 other pairs of jeans I brought on the trip, but I ended up wearing them almost every day because I love them so much. Glad I had access to a washing machine or they would be standing up on their own. Anyway, I love the way the jeans look on you and think they're very flattering. You look awesome! And they get even more comfy the more you wear them!

    1. At first the stretchiness was a little strange feeling, but I am a total fan now!

  5. I'll take comfy and slightly less flattering over flattering and unable to move very well ANY day.

  6. I read somewhere that skinny jeans make you look widest at the hip. I don't think either of these make you look "fat" or "hippy" (I have only read a short time and think both of you ladies are lovely and fashion savvy) and I do agree that the 7's are slightly better and if you can move better in them, yay. My only suggestion is to wear a slightly longer shirt. The one you have on -- the bottom of the shirt ends where your hips meet your crotch/inseam. So my eye is sort of drawn to the bottom of the shirt. Maybe I'm overanalyzing but...

    1. No, you are totally right! I should have specified that I changed into this shirt so you could see more of the jeans. Normally I would wear a jacket, cardigan, or slightly longer shirt with skinny jeans, but since this was a review I didn't want to cover everything up as much.

  7. I have recently become addicted to AG jeans which I have to agree in advance cost more than anyone in their right mind would pay for jeans. Did I mention I'm not in my right mind? Especially when it means OMG SO SKINNY!

I'm just here to enable you. You might want to look away.

    1. AG jeans are awesome and the softest ever ever.

  8. Now I feel bad because I don't do the rebate thing either. And yet I am cheap! Clearly I need to get on that bandwagon.

  9. Oh! These are awesome and now I want one but am in between sizes in pants and don't knooooow. And I think the 7 jeans look better overall.

    1. Hm, are you between sizes because you're losing weight? I'd size down, then, these are super stretchy.

  10. I have to say I'm quite in love with my Gap skinnies, but then, I like structure in my pants, and find them quite comfy, so I think stretchier isn't actually what I'm looking for there! (Also I had the same thought about the distance, though I do think the Gap ones look really good on the whole, too. Either way, you're good. Not helpful? Oh well!)
