Adrien: Miz Mooz Calypso Review.

So, when I discussed needing a black heeled sandal for summer I already had the Miz Mooz Calypso in mind. It was the first one I mentioned and I was pretty sure I was going to order it, despite my love for the cute Fryes. So, I did! I ordered them and you guys...

I don't like them. I was so excited about wearing these sandals and when they arrived I opened the box and had a sinking womp womp feeling. In real life the Calypso reads a little... geriatric. The top strap attaches with Velcro which I don't always mind but this is just really obviously Velcro-fastened. And they seem to skew "comfort clunky" rather than the vintage inspired chunky platform I'd imagined. Here are a couple of (really bad) photos:

Eh, right? I probably could have gone up a half size, but I don't love them enough to bother. To add insult to injury, they aren't very comfortable. I have weirdly sensitive feet so if I put on a pair of new shoes and immediately feel a tiny bit of discomfort I know they'll be agony in a few hours. The inner edge of the toe strap was rubbing immediately and I can only imagine that wasn't going to get better. Sadness.

I've had a few pairs of Miz Mooz that I've loved and worn to pieces and would absolutely re-buy, but this pair is going back. Instead, I went full-on clog sandal (hush, bani) and copied Marianne by ordering a pair similar to her red Hasbeens. I bought these by Lotta From Stockholm:

I know right? I complain about the Miz Mooz pair being uncomfortable so I replace them with a super-chunky wooden clog sandal. Yeah. I'll report back.

  1. lotta from stockholm is rad. it makes you wonder how swedish hasbeens can cost so much? you can basically just pick out whatever hasbeens you want and get an equivalent half price pair from lotta. and honestly my lott's get more wear than my hasbeens anyways!

    1. I'm excited to hear that this brand is good! I want another color in the same style. If I hadn't snagged the Hasbeens for 70% off there's no way I would have bought them.

  2. I have a pair of Korkease platforms and I wear them all the time. I normally don't wear anything strappy or high for longer than 2 hours, but these are super comfy. Maybe these would do the trick? http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=27180009&parentid=SEARCH+RESULTS&color=001
They look similar but without the velcro and they'll go with everything.

  4. I am no shoe aficionado, but I do not do velcro. Ever. Except on my kids' shoes.

  5. Oh em gee, honorary mention because clogs. How will I ever live this down. Hasbeens are probably overpriced, it's just a brand thing IMO. But maybe I'm just being uncharitable and stingy because CLOGS. The really sad thing is that since Marianne saying they're comfy I'm starting to look at them seriously. MUY EVIL Marianne.

  6. These are so disappointing! Whomp whomp. The only designer I've seen do velcro even remotely well is Chie Mihara.

  7. I have two pairs of the Lotte clogs - red closed toe and those black ones and they are incredibly comfortable and look vintage and cool. I get a lot of compliments. Tip: treat the wood with butcher block oil several times or the wood will get dark and moldy if you wear them in the rain.

  8. A, what about these?! Just bought them this weekend in the nude color and OMGZ comfy. Like walking on clouds. I can survive a 11+ hour day in them with no issues (that includes my hour commute each way that requires some running for the bus) - http://www.clarksusa.com/eng/product/caslynn_paula/2606392

Or what about these - http://www.clarksusa.com/eng/product/woodward_alder/26063936

    SAY NO TO VELCRO.

    1. I bought those Clarks in two colours I love them so much. The only heels I've ever been able to comfortably wear.
