Adrien: A Few Things I Like (Fall Edition)

I've been pretty upfront about how much I don't love cold weather. Like, at all. But, I've found a few things that help me deal with it that don't involve alcohol or SAD lamps:

Spanx Tights

Y'all, these are the tights I keep buying because they're amazing. (I mean, I'm sure Wolford tights are amazing too but I'm not spending $45 on tights. Unless they're really that good? Ugh, don't tell me.) The Spanx Tight End tights last forever, they suck you in without being painful and the waistband doesn't roll down. Oh, and they're truly matte with no shine at all, which is important.

Ann Taylor scarves

I have some great scarves that I've picked up from Ross and the like for under $10 but my absolute favorites are from Ann Taylor. They're lightweight, not too itchy and they come out with new patterns every fall. (Both mine are leopard print which should surprise nobody.) Definitely wait until they have a sale, though. Never pay full price at Ann Taylor.

Frye Boots

I know you know this but Frye boots really are pretty freaking good. I have three pairs and I wear them nine months out of the year. They're expensive but good boots should be and they will last forever if you take care of them. Now, I'm not saying you should pay retail (please don't!) but I firmly believe there are a few things worth paying a bit more for and Frye boots are one of those things.

Gap Slips

I am very, very old fashioned with my slip wearing, I know, but you guys. First, it's a warm layer. Second, it will keep your dress or skirt from climbing up your tights. Third, it will make everything hang better. Trust me. I really like the Gap full slips because they're simple and not too expensive. I haven't tried the half-slips but those look pretty good too.

Alright, now your turn. Tell me about your best cold weather accessory!

  1. AMEN to the freakin' slips! Seeing someone wear a dress/skirt that is all hiked up in the back & caught on her tights is just sad. Wear the slip! Slips are good things!

  2. Foot Traffic Cotton tights (get them from sock dreams, free shipping!) Totally awesome tights, lasts well, easy to mend, and so warm and cozy! Also, full slips--a must.have. although the full slip pictured seems a little short to me. :)

    1. The full slip is definitely shorter than average, but I'm not tall (5'5") and it works really well for my dresses that hit right at the knee or a little above. All other full slips I've tried are too long.

  3. The Gap slips are the best things EVER. I want 20 more of them.

  4. I love those tights! DSW has them for $20.

More people need to wear slips, definitely.

  5. I used to roll my eyes so hard when my mom would talk to me about wearing a camisole, but now I have a variety of cotton and/or spandex-y, spaghetti strap t-shirts that I wear under a variety of things in the winter. So warm! There's just something about the word camisole that's so old lady so I refuse to use the word. Maybe slips (also a fan!) need a new name too.

  6. The Gap half slips are pretty good, actually. I am a fan of Hue tights for loads of great colours, and also like having a few pairs of heavy cotton tights to wear under sturdier skirts - like corduroy or jean skirts.

I am a recent convert on Frye boots - I love my black Veronicas, and am currently fence-sitting about keeping a pair of brown ones that were stamped with the Coach C logo in the leather. I got them at Canada's answer to TJ Maxx. What do you think? I think the logo is subtle enough to read as texture, not like the logo cloth, so I think they are okay, though I generally hate logo'd things.

I'm also very into sweaters. Comfy! Warm! What's not to love? I'm rebuilding my sweater drawer following massive losses to moths a few years back. Grrr.

    1. Are they Frye boots stamped with a C? That is so weird! I don't mind a logo as long as it's really subtle and it sounds like these fall into that category. If you like everything else about them, keep.

  7. I had no idea Gap has slips and half slips! How do you find the sizing? I surely don't want a baggy slip! I am a 12 usually but the measurements on the website seem a bit large..I think I should be a L..... Any thoughts?

    1. Mine is a small and it fits pretty closely, so when I get around to ordering another one I'll probably size up just for a bit of length.

  8. You really should try the Commando tights. They are expensive, but really really comfy and fabulous.

    1. I have a pair! They are really good and very comfortable but are a little... lenient around the middle.

  9. The Wolford tights are life-changing. Comfy, non-baggy after 18 hours, stay up but no waistband roll-just saying'. But I have not tried the spanx ones.

  10. Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting that Gap slip. I've been looking everywhere for plain slips that aren't shapewear!
