Marianne: Back In Black

This outfit felt like phoning it in, I mean come on. Black dress, black bag, black booties. Even my necklace is colorless (it's vintage but this crystal necklace is a close dupe). But you know what? I can't remember the last time I got so many compliments.
Seriously, I was called glamorous, fabulous, and my favorite: "six-feet-tall and bulletproof". What was it? The dress is great (I wasn't kidding when I said I bought it in every color), but I didn't think it was particularly attention-getting. It's not like I was wearing this (or oh my god, THIS!).
MAYBE it was my awesome new booties? Yes, I took the plunge and bought the Dolce Vita Hartley Booties (I think I got the last pair in black, but these are close and on sale), and I love them. They were a polarizing purchase (one of my friends who will remain nameless called them "western" and "Ke$ha rejects" and we are no longer speaking), but in person they are fantastic.
They really do make me feel six-feet-tall and bulletproof, which I think should be a requirement of all shoe purchases going forward, don't you?

  1. I can relate. I'm just now branching out into wearing new colors, and one night I went to dinner with a group of friends wearing (a last minute clothing change) a black Old Navy blouse and jeans and got a ton of compliments.

I like your boots but one of the great things about winter is not having to get pedicures, so I'd never wear them :D

  2. I'm right about these boots, but somehow you manage to make them look great.

  3. This is going to sound like I am being negative (you look gorgeous!) but does the dress just wrinkle easily or did you not iron it after you bought it? This one and the grey one from the other day seem to have the same horizontal wrinkle just below your hips and I'm wondering if it was folded or from sitting in it? (Again, you look gorgeous! I'm just considering buying the dress and I wanted to know about the wrinkle factor.) Thanks!
