Weekend Window Shopping: Pretty Powder Compacts.

I'm a little old fashioned this way, but I still carry a powder compact around for touch-ups and I want it to be pretty. Why can't it be pretty? I'd like the powder to be good quality, the mirror to be big and the actual compact to be an attractive object. I have a hard time finding all of these things in one product but I never stop trying. I just trolled Sephora's pressed powder section and here's what I thought looked nice:

M: Oh for the love of Pete.

A: You are just too picky.

M: This might be worse than Belieber Friday.

A: It's not my fault the Shobbit sucks.

M: He cackles in his Hobbit hole when he posts this stuff.

A: He is the actual worst. Make it better, please.

M: Hmmmmm?

A: That is an improvement!

M: Stick THAT in your hobbit hole.

That came out wrong.

A: Marianne.

M: I don't want to talk about it.

A: You need to fix this.

M: I'M TRYING.

A: RANIERRRRRRR. SO MUCH BETTTERRRRRRRRRRRRR.

M: Whew. Things were touch and go there for a while. Gin?

A: Yes, please. Cheers.

Adrien: A Cry For Shampoo Help.

Okay, you guys. I need help. I've finally given up on Living Proof products and I'm down to the dregs of my travel size shampoo and conditioner bottles. I need to just hike up my jeggings and march into Ulta or Sephora and buy some shampoo/conditioner like a goddamn adult person. The problem is, I start reading reviews online and for every, "THIS IS MY HOLY GRAIL SHINY AWESOME BEST" review there's two, "MY HAIR IS RUINED THIS CRAP IS THE WORST" reviews and then I fall down the rabbit hole of reviews and still don't know what to buy. I am considering the following:

I've used the shine and volume Alterna products and liked them just fine. The Caviar line is very, very expensive and is either the BEST EVER or the BIGGEST RIPOFF depending on who you believe. I've also read good things about Pureology:

Also very very expensive but if it's amazzzzzing, I don't mind. If it's not amazing I will very much mind. There's also the L'Oreal Total Repair shampoo and conditioner that goes with the balm I like, but I am never convinced that drugstore products are going to give me the same results. Have I been brainwashed by Sephora? Perhaps. So, now it's your turn. I have fine, straight, color-treated hair with slightly damaged ends. Charming, right? What do you suggest? What should I avoid?

Also! If you know of a great styling product I should be using, I'd like to hear about that too. Thank you in advance.

Snow Day Shoppy.

A: Okay, so I bought that necklace from the J Crew sale and it's basically the only thing I've bought in weeks. I hate everything in my closet but I also hate winter.

M: I want that dang necklace SO BAD. And the sweatshirt. But what I need are skinny jeans. My favorite jeans are getting too big. Which yay, I guess, but also boo because jeans shopping.

7 For All Mankind at ShopStyle

A: I have those jeans too and I love them even though they slide down. Where are the magic skinny jeans that stay put?

M: My parameters: must not be stupidly expensive, must have a real waistband because no, must have a dark wash and mid-rise. Go!

A: What in the CRAP with the waist on that second pair.

A: Maybe these:

Citizens of Humanity at ShopStyle

M: I was literally JUST looking at those! These have promise, no? And they are such a good price!

A: I would buy those Joes right now if I needed jeans. I do not need jeans.

M: I literally do not have a single pair of skinny jeans that fits properly. I actually have one pair of jeans that fits well, period. The sevens fall down and my old Gap 1969 Real Skinny jeans are baggy in the knees. Did I lose knee fat?

M: ANYWAY, I also really like these but oof. Pricey:

Hudson Jeans at ShopStyle

A: I don't love the whiskering on those. I am all about the plainest jeans I can find.

M: Yeah, me too. Hudson fits me really well, though. Or they used to, before I lost all my knee fat.

A: I have only tried on weird Hudson styles I found at TJ Maxx that nobody else could wear either.

M: Well I should say this is all based on a pair that is at least 6 years old. Good jeans though!

A: I want to buy things but I don't actually have any needs. Wait, I might need this:

Alexander McQueen at ShopStyle

M: That's a need for sure.

A: No, I NEED IT. And this one for work:

Alexander McQueen at ShopStyle

M: I AGREE. LETS NOT FIGHT.

A: I also just want a bunch of things that are cashmere.

M: Yes. I eyed a cashmere throw the other day and wondered if I could pass it off as a scarf?

A: Are cashmere sheets a thing?

M: Well they SHOULD BE. I'm cold.

A: Me too. I'm a shivery poodle.

M: Is it March yet?

How about now?

Now?

A: *quietly weeping*

Buy This (So We Don't Have To, But Maybe We Should): Coats on sale!

Is it a coincidence that Nordstrom is having a big coat sale right as the terrible weather gets even more terrible? I think not. I had to abandon my car and hike in the snow to get home, so I am eyeing these bad boys.

I am generally anti-puffer coat but you know what? That is ridiculous. Look how flattering this Laundry Drawstring Waist puffer is, and you know it's warm. Bonus, leopard print lining!

My dad has a classic London Fog coat that he's had since the 70's, so I'm digging this Hooded Toggle Coat, plus it's a good price for a solid brand. I was really wishing for a hood when I was hiking up my driveway in the pouring snow.

Something about a snowstorm makes me want a big fur-trim hooded coat. I just can't help myself! This one from Topshop is cute, has room for layers, and the price is right.

And, okay, this Topshop coat is not exactly practical. I'm sure the snow would soak it and wind cut right through you. So maybe I'll just wear it around the house? It looks SO COZY OMG:

It's freezing, go get yourself a new coat. Apparently winter is never ending.

Adrien: Monday Slump.

Hello! It's Monday and, by God, all I wanted was to be relatively comfortable. That was my goal. This goal started with my newish and beloved 7FAMK brushed twill jeans (reviewed here) which are pretending to be work appropriate pants.

I can't remember the brand of the top I'm wearing, but this one is vaguely similar and probably more flattering. I love a flappy, loose top. The sweater is Banana Republic which I remember liking in the store but I didn't actually buy it. Then Nina found it at a thrift store because she's Nina and only she can manage such things.  A beaded/embellished cardigan is a nice thing to have - comfortable and still fancy. Maybe check out this one. Oooh, or this one! (But not this one because wow.)

My shoes are Chie Mihara (no longer available but this pair has the same flair) and I am going to be so sad when they eventually die. I don't wear heels very often, but these are worth it.

Just for the sake of style blog science (totally a thing) I snapped the cardigan all the way up so you could see the beaded detailing better:

Yep, nope. Bad idea. I immediately unsnapped it. Here is an obnoxious close-up:

The cool necklace I'm wearing was made by the talented Eliza Spell. Bag 'n shoe deets:

 Have a good week, everyone.

Weekend Window Shopping: J.Crew Sale.

Hey there! J.Crew is having one of those sales - an extra 40% off of final sale items with code BYEWINTER, plus 3% back with eBates (my referral link.) This is a really screamingly good deal if you don't mind taking a risk on final sale items.
