Ah, the closet orphan. That thing you bought that just doesn't seem to work with anything no matter how hard you try. For me, it's this stupid skirt I bought last fall at Ann Taylor. It seemed like the perfect winter pencil skirt but the dark grey-green color just looks weird with nearly everything. I finally paired it with this top (Sold out, but this one is similar.) and I'm not unhappy with it.
I'm wearing it with my Frye Tina boots (The "Jane" style is very similar) and my trusty Marc Jacobs Stella tote (which, if you love, you should check out this one.)
The jacket (recently worn here) pulls it together a bit, though I wish I'd thought to throw on SOME kind of color. Maybe a fun bright scarf would've helped un-gloom things?
Boots! Man, I love these boots. And the bag. Not so much the skirt.
I have a skirt kind of like that. It's such a weird color -- in my closet it looks gray-ish. But when I pair it with gray all of a sudden it looks brown. But when I pair it with brown all of a sudden it looks more gray. I hate it but I love it and I can't bear to get rid of it.

I think the outfit you put together looks great. It's amazing how much your hair has grown. Give me hope for mine, which I'm also growing out.
Love those Frye boots - not familiar with the Tina style, but they are gorgeous. Am currently stalking ebay for some affordable black Frye's..not sure if I want to go more tailored, or a little more more casual, such as the carson. Decisions!!! Or I could get a wedge heel boot - any favorites this season?
ReplyDeleteThe Tina style is old, I've had them for a few years. Of the new styles, I think the Jackie Zip Tall is pretty great. A good compromise between casual and dressy.
DeleteHow about with heather grey or jewel tones?
ReplyDeleteMaybe your purple coat?
ReplyDeleteit works well with the blouse, and then the boots...but then the bag seems too light? Would going in the direction of blackwatch plaid tones work with that skirt? (not plaid, just the colors used)
ReplyDeleteInteresting! I will definitely consider this.
