Review: L'Oreal Total Repair 5 Damage Erasing Balm.

Okay, you know what? I am DONE with that Living Proof crap. I'll probably try and find a different salon-quality color-safe shampoo but my deep conditioner needs have been met with a drugstore product. I'm living the dream, you guys! I read some glowing online reviews about L'Oreal Total Repair 5 Damage Erasing Balm and I figured I'd spend the $6.99 to find out if it's really that good.

I am awesome

And you know what? It's really that good. The ends of my hair are getting kind of crispy looking since I insist on torturing them with all manner of heat appliances and the Living Proof mask was doing nothing to help. Useless! So I tried this drugstore stuff assuming it would be crappy, but you know, I do it for you guys. THE THINGS I DO FOR BLOG SCIENCE. Heh. Anyway, I use it like conditioner. I scoop some out of the ultra-inconvenient tub it comes in, let it sit for a minute or two and rinse and oh my god, my hair is so nice and smooth afterwards. just soft and manageable and good. It's magical and it doesn't smell bad either. (I mean, it's probably full of silicone and is quietly giving me lead poisoning, but my hair looks great!)

The tub packaging is really super awkward but so far that's the only downside. I don't generally use this every single day, but now I'm sort of curious to try to the L'Oreal Total Repair 5 shampoo and conditioner. Hell, if the balm is this good, maybe the rest of the line is awesome too? A girl can dream.

  1. I wore hair extensions for a year and when I finally took them out, my hair was TOAST. I went directly from the extension removal appointment to CVS in search of something, anything to help me. I picked up the Total Repair 5 shampoo and conditioner and used them exclusively, it definitely helped to bring my poor abused hair back to life!

...I still miss my extensions though...

  2. Do you feel like it weighs your hair down? I am intrigued and may be seeking this stuff out.

    1. I haven't, but I mostly just put it on the ends.

  3. Ooooh, I started using that too, for my dry, super-color-treated hair!

I was recommended the Kerastase Ciment Thermique by my salon for repairing and protecting my damaged hair. But the Kerastase was suuuuuper expensive. I was iffy on it. So I did some research, and I saw that Kerastase is now owned by L'Oreal. Then I saw that L'Oreal had their own, much much much cheaper, damaged-hair-protecting thingie: the Damage-Erasing Balm. And sooooo much cheaper.

So, I tried out the L'Oreal, and it's great! I love it. I pair it with that Nexxus spray stuff that protects your hair from blowdrying and I am very, very happy.

Just had to add my voice to the endorsement.

  4. You know what I am also enjoying is the Redken colour extend shampoo and conditioner. I got them for Christmas and I find myself noting my hair is nice and shiny and I keep touching it as it is so smooth. Considering my hair is very overly processed with colour it is a win.

  5. I just wanted to chime in that I've also kinda had it with Living Proof products.

  6. So why are you all giving up on Living Proof? I just got the no frizz shampoo and have been using the style primer and like them a lot! What turned you off?

    1. I still really like the No Frizz line but the other shampoo/conditioners I've used don't do much for me and I notice zero difference when I use the Style Primer. Boo.
