You can read the story of this dress here. Thanks again, Adina!
While attempting to organize my sad hell of a closet the other day I realized I have five wrap dresses. Does that seem like a lot? While I don't agree that they're universally flattering, I do think they're really effing versatile. For one thing, if you gain or lose five pounds that dress will still fit you. Yay for that. I also like that they can be styled conservatively for work and also can be a great date dress. You can't ask much more than that.
This particular dress is Diane Von Furstenberg, the queen of the ridiculously beautiful wrap dress, but you can also find a perfectly reasonable version at Target. And you guys know I love the Banana Republic Gemma wrap dress, especially in this cool diamond print.
I don't generally wear flats with dresses but I loved how my purply-blue Madewell flats looked with the colors in the dress so that's good enough for me. My bag is my MBMJ Baby Groovee, who's tininess I'm still adjusting to.
So, you there. Wrap dress yay or nay?
You know how I feel about this dress on you - perfect match! And I adore the colour of those shoes; it goes so well with the burgundy/maroon bag. Gorgeosity!
ReplyDeleteI've been looking forward to fall so I could wear it again! So much love.
DeleteYou look gorgeous, but yeah the "wrap dresses are universally flattering" articles are definitely written by non-volumptuous people because that shit looks positively indecent on me.
ReplyDeleteI love this dress on you! Wrap dresses are a huge nay for me because of my high hips and 8 shape. Or at least I think that's why they look like crap on me. I will continue to enjoy seeing them on others. :)
ReplyDeleteI do suspect they make me look boobier and more short-waisted than I already am, but I don't even care.
DeleteWrap dresses look great on you since you are a slim hourglass figure! For my apple shape it's a no-go... I obediently purchased several wrap dresses and classic shirt dresses (a la Land's End) because my magazines told me they are universally flattering, but finally sold/donated all as one day I realized the belted waists only emphasized that I did not have one. ~Anon. L.
ReplyDeleteI haven't found one that looks good on me, but I'm petite, small chested, and waist-y.
ReplyDeleteWrap dresses: yay! I finally scored my own DVF when Nordstrom was having some sort of ridiculous sale and I heart it so much.
ReplyDeleteWith a 32G chest, every wrap dress I've ever worn makes me look like a porn star. Womp womp.
ReplyDeleteLove wraps. Funny, I have that exact bag in the same color, but in the larger size. I can't adjust to that size either--too big for me.
ReplyDeleteWhy didn't they just make one in-between? I love the regular Groovee but it's way too big.
DeleteMuch like Gabby said, my decently sized D cups seem to grow ever larger in a wrap dress and want to jump out and grab innocent passersby. Love the look on others though.
ReplyDeleteI can wear a faux wrap dress, but not a real one. It never looks right on me.
ReplyDeleteI think I look really good in wrap dresses (I hope I'm not just kidding myself) - pear shaped, with smallish chest and small waist. The deep v makes my chest look better, and the wrap hides the "generous" hips/thighs.
ReplyDeleteThis is what I tell myself, anyway. I think you look gorgeous in that dress, by the way!
I like the wrap, and the Gemma is a favourite. Shockingly, I got a great one from Old Navy this summer, too!
