Adrien: Review of Everlane's Slouchy Cashmere V-Neck Sweater.

I'm back! I'm feral. I had nearly two weeks off and it was ridiculous how quickly my schedule devolved into a blur of sleeping late and eating fancy salami and cheese for "dinner." It was everything I thought it would be.

For Christmas I bought myself a few gifts (single ladies gotta buy their own damn presents) and one of them was an Everlane Slouchy cashmere sweater. I wasn't intending on this purchase but they sent me a $20 off coupon and most of my sweaters are the saddest of the sad, so it seemed like the thing to do. I got this one:

Slouchy Cashmere Sweater makes you slouch.

Everlane's shipping is fast and it arrived a few days later. When I opened the package I'm pretty sure my face looked like the model's. Huh. The sweater was very basic, very charcoal, and very soft, just not as puppy-soft as I'd imagined. (Now, I can't wear any kind of cashmere or wool next to my skin so I didn't expect it to not be itchy but I did kind of expect it to be softer like my old beloved J.Crew cashmere sweater. Hmph. However, I also didn't pay for premium cashmere so I got over that pretty quickly.)

Then I put it on. And didn't take it off for two weeks. I am not kidding, I wore this sweater nearly every single day of my vacation. It's basically perfect. It's lightweight, warm, just the right amount of shapeless slouchy and just works for me. I desperately want another one in the cobalt color but it's sold out. Ugh.  I promise to do an outfit pic soon so you can see the glorious slouch of it all, but until then here's a very unsatisfying sweater selfie (how does rcbshops do it?) :

Slouchy! Grey! Perfect! So far it's only pilling a very little bit in high-friction areas, but considering how much wear it's gotten in it's short life, it's to be expected. I'm so glad I took a chance on this sweater because it's currently my favorite thing. Well, except for this jacket which I should probably talk about at some point soon.

  1. You said my name! I am blushing! I have been thinking about this sweater for a long time but haven't pulled the trigger yet....I used my credit for a sweatshirt. And the patent leather loafers coming up -- I die.

    1. I'm not a loafer girl but that patent pair is tempting...

  2. Thank you, thank you, thank you for the review. I've had my eye on this sweater for ages and now I'm sold. I'm also considering one of the magazine totes, but waiting until the new release comes out in a few weeks for the final decision.

  4. What size are you wearing? I love their t-shirts and french terry sweatshirts. I only got $15 credit, so you win! :)

    1. Sorry, I got a small. It's roomy but not over-sized.

  5. I got that sweater for my birthday in October (because I put it on my Wish List) and I love it so much, too. Soft, warm but not too warm, and the color - dark gray - is delicious. I'm usually a L in their things (a size 12 in real life) and I picked up the M in this one because I wasn't feeling the whole "slouchy" vibe, so mine is still loose but not as loose as the model's.

  6. I did a bunch of research/Google-stalking about Everlane's cashmere sweaters awhile back, and ran across one of those fashion forums where men geek out over selvedge denim and such. (Male fashion nerds OMG) It turns out that softness isn't necessarily the best measure of cashmere quality; lower quality cashmere often feels soft against the skin because of weak threads that will break and pill easily. Their final verdict was that Everlane's cashmere is quite good for the price point (same with Uniqlo), and the lack of "softness" is a mark of its quality. It should stand the test of time well. Say what you will, but I'm still wearing JCrew cashmere sweaters from 4 or 5 winters ago, and they've held up incredibly well.

  7. Have you cleaned/washed it yet? I have some Everlane cashmere and would really like to hand wash it but it says "dry clean only". I wrote to Everlane and they confirmed that it should be dry clean only, but everything that I have read says that cashmere can and should be hand washed....

    1. I hand wash all my cashmere. Tepid water and a little laundry soap and be very gentle. Then roll it in a towel to get most of the water out and lay flat to dry.
