Work/Play Outfit (and Old Navy Open-Back Cami Review)

I bought this adorable open-back print cami at Old Navy weeks ago and proceeded to not wear it, mostly because I don't own a strapless bra. I finally decided to hell with it and threw it over a bralette thingy:

Cute for a weekend look, right? I'm wearing it with a pair of utility shorts I bought at Banana last year. This pair is pretty similar but this Hinge pair are nearly identical. This cami, though! It's swingy and has great details and it's totally Daniel approved:

Hi, buddy. The sea urchin print on this top is what really sold me. I loooove it. Plus, it's like $13. Really. They also have a peplum-hem swing top with the same print and and, if you have a little girl there’s a dress

I'm wearing the cami with my favorite BR necklace but I think this coral necklace would be thematically appropriate and this gold fringe necklace would just look ridiculously cute with my outfit.

My watch is a Cluse La Bohème in rose gold and it's hard to see but I'm wearing my LUV AJ ring from the Rachel Zoe Box of Style. This one is really similar and probably less snag-prone. I mentioned interesting details on the cami and this is what I mean:

It's breezy and open but still hides your bra and the buttons are cute. (But seriously with the visible straps. Anyone have a good strapless bra they like?)  I was struggling to figure out how to pull off wearing this to work and finally I just switched out my shorts for cropped pants and threw on a summer weight cardigan

Totally work appropriate as long as I keep my sweater on forever. Now, bag and shoes time:

I carry my red LV epi speedy a lot in the summer because it's such an easy hit of color and it adds a little needed structure to unstructured outfits. Red satchels for everyone! I particularly like the shape of this Matt and Nat satchel and this Furla bag is everything a red satchel should be. And ooh, this MBMJ red duffel is an extra 60% off the sale price! Git it. Cheap and cheerful? Right here

My sandals are an old pair of Birkenstock Gizehs in silver. You should probably just get a pair if you haven't already. Except don't buy these electric blue python print Gizehs because I want them. Badly. I will cut you.

  1. No advice on strapless bras but for tips like this I'm a fan of various bralettes with meant-to-be-seen details. I've got two from Target (of all places) with a racer back mesh detail and a few from free people in various styles. I suppose this only works if you need a minimum of support. I'm not sure if it's silly or not but I do try to coordinate them so it looks intentional, not like I just wore a regular bra.

    1. Thanks! I actually have the racer back mesh one from Target and was hoping it would work with this, but the racer back looks weird and it's not really enough support (but no bralette is.)

  2. I just got the Lillyet Bali Minimizer (I think that's right) strapless and give it two thumbs up. Stays up, doesn't give you uniboob, as comfortable as these things can get.

  3. What's wrong with bra straps showing? It looks the same as if it were cami straps showing. No one can tell the difference. Also, I guess because I lived in NYC where many women wear tops/dresses with exposed bra straps, I see it as no big deal. Actually I think it can give a little edginess to a very feminine outfit so I like it. Plus strapless bras are a pain in the a$$.

    1. I agree with you in theory, I just don't think I'm pulling off the visible bra straps thing very well. It's so much cuter without them but ugh, strapless bras are the worst.

    2. I agree it looks fine with the bra straps showing. And with legs like you've got who is gonna be looking at your bra straps? Who?!

  4. I had resigned myself to a life without strapless bras and the things you need them to wear under ... and then, a year ago, I was sent to a boutique lingerie place where they introduced me to Simone Perele: http://www.simoneperele.com MY GOD, THEY'RE BEAUTIFUL, AND THEY WORK!!! Pricey (I have one black and one nude, and they're $90 each) but ... yada yada yada now me and my 36Ds cavort about in the cutest tops these days! Worth it.

  5. That top is great; I love the buttons and the print- for a swingy thing, it's very elegant.
Aren't sheer cardigans the best? I've been wearing my grey uniqlo one to death-
Gizehs are perfect too- (ditto the Speedy rouge) altogether, great outfits :)
