So, instead of going to boring route and buying black flats I decided on metallic because they'll go with nearly everything and not be the boring choice. Yay me. I really loved the pair of silver mules Marianne bought at Target recently and they do have a pair of super cute pointy gold flats but my luck with synthetic shoes has not been great so for this search, I'm going with leather.
My criteria are thus: Must be leather, no flimsy-foldy shoes, not crazy expensive. Here's what I'm considering:
These are Ugg (with no fleece insole) and they're good but I can't find them in my size.
These are Frye Carson and they're basically perfect and also sold out in my size. Woe.
These aren't technically ballet flats, but they are fresh and have a bit French girl chic.
These are not what I was looking for but I don't hate them? I'll bet they're comfortable.
These would be the safe and slightly boring choice. I don't know if they spark joy.
HOWEVER, these do! They obviously aren't really flats but aren't they cute?
EDITED TO ADD:
How could I forget the Bowie option? (These are a loafer and I'm not buying them but hee.)
I love the Sam Edelman Finnegans (safe and slightly boring). They don't look boring to me, they look Bowie.
ReplyDeleteBless you! I just added an option I'd forgotten about.
DeleteI have the Sam Edelman scallop flats in leopard and thought they ran a bit wide and didn’t hold up well - they ended up with a crease on either side near the ball of my foot. I wouldn’t pay full price but they’re cute!
DeleteI have these and they look cute with jeans and are super comfortable. https://www.zappos.com/p/lucky-brand-emmie-platinum/product/7786864/color/2044?ef_id=VyJfhQAABQqbZkgK:20180423161447:s
ReplyDeleteHow about the J Crew Cece ballet flat? They are super comfy and I can usually catch them on sale or on Poshmark.
ReplyDeleteThey are almost TOO classic ballet for me? I am probably overthinking this.
DeleteThey are def a classic. Maybe it’s a good thing? They are sleek and cute and unobtrusive and let other parts of an outfit shine.
DeleteP.S. I have these and love them:

Lucky Brand Aviee flat in Pewter
DeleteFWIW - I find those Carson flats too flimsy to be worth the money. They stretch out, don't hold your foot, and in my experience require an additional sole at the cobbler for even daily use. Though, yeah, they are super cute...
ReplyDeleteThat helps, thank you!

ReplyDeleteI do like them but they're so much pointier than I thought. Not sure if I'm keeping them. Metallic flats are surprisingly hard to find.
I have these and really like them:

The Tieks knock-off blue sole adds some fun interest and they are very cushiony.
Those are cute! Unfortunately they fall under the "flimsy-foldy" category of flats that I just destroy too fast.
DeleteI've been really underwhelmed by the longevity of Sam Edelman flats.
ReplyDeleteI love those Ugg flats! Can you update the link? Looks like it's linked to one of the other pairs... Thank you!
ReplyDeleteSorry, it's fixed!
DeleteI feel your shoulder season shoe problems! I have these: https://www.zappos.com/p/born-julianne-panna-cotta/product/8070378/color/281081; they likely won't spark joy BUT I've worn the hell out of them the last 3 years, they are really comfy and they still look good (as in the sole is totally fine). This might be the year I replace them and I'll happily repurchase them. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI ordered the Carsons, and they literally came with the toe scuffed just from banging around in the box. So, you're not missing out! I do love my other ones, but I don't think the gold holds up.
