Outfit of The Day: Should I Keep It?

Hey! Remember back a few weeks ago when I bought some stuff during the Madewell sale? Everything was 40% off plus I had a $25 birthday reward and I bought these things for very little money:

I'm wearing the Texture & Thread Crepe Wrap Top and the 9" High-Rise Skinny Jeans in York Wash: Rip and Repair Edition. I like both of these items with some reservations. Perhaps y'all can help me?

First, the wrap top. I love the color, the material is nice quality and it's machine washable! But is it flattering? I bought a medium and wonder if it's too big through the shoulders (a common problem for me, the shoulderless wonder.) However, it's RULL short so I wouldn't want to lose any length. What say you all? Here's a detail shot:

Is it a keeper or is it doing weird things to my chest? Just in case you were wondering, I'm wearing my Argento Vivo labradorite necklace (pretty similar here) and my Miansai fish hook necklace. Now, the jeans

I like nearly everything about these jeans. They're good, weighty denim, the distressing is perfect and the color is great. But...I think I should've sized down. They bag a little round my knees and I was already hitching them up minutes after putting them on. So, I think keepers if I can exchange for a size down? Here's a closeup from the side:

What do you think? I haven't figured out how to wear released hem jeans with boots, so I dug out my Sam Edelman flats (a Poshmark purchase) and was really pleased with how they look. I think I'm sick of boots, y'all.

  1. I think the top looks really cute! I can see what you're saying about it being a hair big through the shoulders, but I don't think I would have noticed that had you not pointed out. It is not doing weird things to your chest.

I vote yes for exchanging the jeans- I like the wash and the hem detail, but if you are already pulling them up, you need the smaller size.

  2. The colour of the top looks beautiful on you and the style is very flattering, but I do think you should size down one notch in both the top and the jeans (which also look great).

  3. I like the top on you and the color is great. I would definitely size down in those jeans. I really like that style and wash.

  4. I love both of those pieces on you, but I am also on team resize / replace simply because one of my hardcore shopping rules is not to keep stuff that makes me go "ehhh.... maybe..." as I tug thoughtfully at it in front of the mirror. I figure that if it doesn't fit right then it won't fix itself, and I don't find myself wearing items that I have to haul up or tug down very much. The color of that top is great, though!

  5. They're both so cute! I do agree on exchanging for other sizes though. The length of the shirt might make it a no-go if it gets too short in a small.

  6. I bought that top in the coral color and returned it because it didn't do anything for me. I should have ordered the red! In the photo, the size looks fine. It's meant to be short (worn with high rise jeans) and I didn't have any trouble with the length in my usual size, but ymmv.
If the jeans are too big, exchange them.

  7. I think the top is very flattering. The jeans need to be a size down.

  8. Love the top! The fit & color look great to me, and wouldn't have thought a thing about the shoulders until you mentioned it...I think its fine. I have it in forest green and it is crooked on me! I didn't realize until later in the day and I can't return it but I think its defective. The jeans are great but agree with size down.

  9. Hey, I think you were going to explain at some point why you liked this wrap top rather than the J Crew one? I tried the J Crew & found it way short so I am curious what you liked about this one...I think it looks cute btw but I'm not 100% sold. The jeans on the other hand are awesome, just size down & keep.

    1. My JCrew blouse has a small flaw and by the time I returned it, it was sold out. (Also, while I really liked it in theory it's saying something that the tags were still on when I returned it!)

  10. I think the top looks lovely on you but if you have any reservations at all, I say return it. The jeans look fab so definitely get a smaller size! :)

  12. I think the jeans look a little too big and if they have some stretch to them you'll do fine with a size down. The shirt...I have to say I also think is too big. The neckline is very low, and it's puckering at the sides a lot, like there's too much fabric there. Maybe it's just not meant to be? Sigh. It's a GREAT color on you though! If you can get the jeans a size down they are fab (gotta love Madewell) but the shirt? There's always another blouse, amirite?

  13. I think you could go a size down in the top but you dont need to, visually. The color and cut look so great on you. As do the jeans, but if you like them snugger, go ahead.
