Marianne: I was Influenced and Bought Custom Hair Products

Hey friends, Marianne here.

There are many, many things that follow me across the internet, whispering in my ear to buy, buy, buy. Countless (seriously) giant house dresses, fancy candles, low carb cereal, meal boxes, all the bralettes in the world, but one that I clicked on over and over again was Prose custom haircare. BTW, this isn't sponsored, but you know...call me.

ANYWAY like a lot of us, my hair has been on a real journey in these weird AF times. I still have to look pretty put together for work (yes, even from home), so I am still heat styling my hair like a chump, but for the past couple of summers I got a keratin treatment to help battle the heat and humidity. Obviously that didn't happen this year, so I've been struggling with my hair. Enter Prose

After filling out a fun questionnaire, I picked my scent (I went with Perle--white lilac, bergamot, and musk, but you can choose unscented!) and waited a bit for it to be made and shipped. I went for the pre-shampoo mask, shampoo and conditioner, but I skipped the styling oil because I have some pricey products from my salon (this hair serum and this hair oil spray) that I love. I did the mask before showering, then washed and conditioned like usual. Y'all, let me cut to the chase, my hair looks incredible.

The morning after styling my hair, someone asked on a Zoom call if I had gotten a haircut. Later that day, someone jokingly accused me of getting blowouts during a pandemic. NOPE. Just Prose. Not only did my hair look great that day, it stayed shiny and smooth and held a wave for the next few days. I had a work project outside, in the middle of August, for 8 hours and at the end of the day I didn't have a BIT of frizz. It's truly a miracle.

Now, I will say the products are pricey and the bottles are small. I have a lot of long, thick, hair so I need 6 pumps of shampoo and conditioner to get the job done. However I also only wash my hair 1-2 times a week, so it will last me a while. And honestly, I've been using Costco shampoo and conditioner for years, so I felt okay treating myself.

If you want to try it out, I would love it if you used my link--it saves you $10 and gives me a credit so I can continue to maintain this habit! Have you ever tried custom hair products? I have to say I was skeptical but this has proven to be such a treat.

  1. Your hair is gorgeous!! Prose hasn’t tempted me yet (tho I am now intrigued) but I have been dying to try some of those curl products that keep chasing me, especially LUS. Do you like the scent you selected?

    1. I love the scent! I was hoping it would play nicely with my perfume (Santal 33) and it does. It's not super strongly scented, but it's nice and it lasts for a day or two.

  2. I'm interested, but what does it look like when you don't dry and curl it? I have naturally wavy hair and rarely heat style lately unless there's a true work-related need (mediation, hearing, etc). Your hair DOES look awesome, but it's clearly styled. I'm more interested in how it works when you don't do much to it after you get out of the shower.

    1. Yup, I specified that I heat-style my hair when I answered my questionnaire. However there are loads of options for air drying, curl pattern, etc. I can't speak to how it works when you air dry it because I don't do that, but if I try it in the future I'll update the post. Thanks!

  3. SOLD. I haven't had a cut/color since February and the texture is so blah.

  4. Well crud. This is something my 14 year old has been begging for. I guess we are trying it. You are BAD for my wallet. Btw let Adrianne know the Barefoot Dreams cardi arrived. The pockets are on seam, so not as bad as they could be but the whole thing ends at exactly my widest point. I would not be comfortable leaving the house in it! OTOH it is seriously next level soft. Like one of those super soft and silky plush throws that have recently been so popular. Heavy and thicker than I expected too. Not sure whether I'm keeping it yet. But it might be good for all of the video teleconferences all winter...

  5. Did you get it with or without silicone?

    1. I went back and forth and ultimately got it with the silicone because I really needed frizz help.

    2. I almost ordered it based on the FB discussion but got hung up on the silicone decision. If I order I think I'll try with silicone because I have frizz too

  6. Your hair looks amazing! Two questions - how do you do your curls? I can never get mine to turn out nicely. And can you please please update us in a month or two and tell us how it is still going with the products? I find myself just enamored with a product (hello, Wonder Water) and then after a few months I quit getting the results. Thank you!

    1. Hey there! I dry with a hot tool hair dryer round brush thing and then curl with a tapered T3 wand. Sometimes if it’s really humid I smooth the ends with a T3 flat iron before curling.

    2. And yes, I will try and update in a bit!

  10. I'm curious why people would go back and forth on silicone? I'm in Canada so they only way I could order is if I have a friend in the states forward it to me.

  11. Supes jeals. I tried Prose and it...did not work. Made my greasy ass hair 1000% greasy assier. But! To their credit they took back my products no questions and were generally great to deal with.
